Niagara Falls | Natural beauty that cascades over two countries

If magnificence is anything to go by, the scenic Niagara Falls is sure to take your breath away! This natural marvel is a cross-border marvel, with not one, but three waterfalls in both America and Canada combined.

You can see the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls on the American side, and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls on the Canada side.

Things to know before booking your Niagara Falls tickets & tours

  • If you are not a citizen of the US or Canada and plan on visiting both sides of Niagara Falls, you will need to obtain a US tourist visa and a Canadian tourist visa beforehand from your home country.
  • If you are a US citizen over the age of 16 years, you will need a Passport, a Passport Card, or an Enhanced Driver's Licence (only issued by New York, Michigan, Vermont, and Washington) to enter Canada.
  • You can easily access attractions on either side of the falls by crossing The Rainbow Bridge, which connects Niagara Falls in Canada and Niagara Falls in the US.
  • In addition to the falls, several brilliant attractions on both the US and Canadian sides will make your trip much more enjoyable. Make sure to experience the Journey Behind the Falls, Maid of the Mist boat tour, Cave of the Winds, and the Niagara SkyWheel.
  • Since the colder months from December to February attract fewer tourists, you can see stunning ice formations on the partially frozen falls at this time. Whereas, booking your tickets between April and October guarantees enjoyable weather since most attractions are only functional during this time.
  • All viewing areas are fully wheelchair accessible with ramped pathways. Many attractions, like the Maid of the Mist Boat Tour, trails and footpaths throughout the Niagara Falls State Park, Skylon Tower, and the Niagara Fury 4D experience, are also wheelchair accessible.
  • Niagara Falls is easily accessible by public transport. The Buffalo Niagara International Airport is the closest airport to the US side, just a 30-minute ride away, while the John C Munro Hamilton International Airport is an hour away from the Canadian side. Many parking options are available a short walk away from the attraction.
  • To get the full Niagara Falls experience, visit both the American and Canadian sides of the falls. However, it’s worth mentioning that, according to popular opinion, the view from the Canadian side is something you just can’t miss!

Visitor tips

Timings: Niagara Falls State Park is open 24/7 all year round. However, the park's attractions, including the visitor center, have their own schedules.

Best time to visit: Head over to Niagara Falls between June and August for good weather and a great way to cool off during the higher temperatures that can fall between 70F and 80F. Expect large crowds and costlier accommodation prices because this is peak season. But since a lot of the seasonal attractions are open during the summer, this is the best time to experience the Falls in their entirety.

Here’s how you can spend a full day at Niagara Falls in the US

Niagara Falls State Park Visitor Center: Spend 30 minutes exploring the space and familiarizing yourself with the park's layout.

Observation Tower: Make your way to the observation deck to enjoy panoramic views of the falls. Allow 30 minutes for viewing and taking photos.

Cave of the Winds: Give yourself an hour to experience the exhilarating journey to the base of Bridal Veil Falls.

Maid of the Mist Boat Tour: This thrilling one-hour-long boat ride gets you up close to the falls.

Niagara Gorge Trail: Take an hour to stroll along the Niagara Gorge Trail for stunning views of the gorge and rapids.

Prospect Point Park: Visit Prospect Point Park for more breathtaking views of the falls and explore the park's amenities. You can expect this to take an hour.

Evening illumination of the falls: Return to the falls after dinner to witness its stunning illumination after dark.

If you’re visiting the Canadiana side, here’s how you can spend your day there

Journey Behind the Falls: Get up close and personal with the falls right from the get-go with Journey Behind the Falls. This tour will take about an hour.

Hornblower Niagara Cruises: Have a truly immersive experience with this one-hour boat tour from the Canadian side.

Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory: A must-visit non-falls attraction on the Canadian side, this conservatory is a tropical paradise. Give yourself an hour here.

Skylon Tower: Then head over to the Skylon Tower, which offers lunch with a view. Take a lunch break here with panoramic views of the falls and the surrounding area.

Clifton Hill: Spend two hours exploring Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls' famous entertainment district, filled with attractions, restaurants, and shops.

Niagara Falls illumination: Witness the falls illuminated with colorful lights after dark.

Here’s how your day would look if you spend your day visiting both the US and Canada sides

Start on the Canadian side: Begin your day on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the falls from Queen Victoria Park. Take some time to stroll along the Niagara Parkway and admire the stunning scenery.

Journey Behind the Falls: Head to Journey Behind the Falls, where you can descend into the tunnels behind the falls onto the observation decks for an up-close view of the cascading water.

Hornblower Niagara Cruises: After exploring behind the falls, take a Hornblower Niagara Cruises boat tour for an unforgettable journey to the base of the falls. Feel the mist on your face as you get close to the water.

Cross over to the US Side: Cross the Rainbow Bridge to the US side of Niagara Falls. Enjoy the scenic transfer across the bridge and take in the views.

Niagara Falls State Park: Once you've crossed into the US, make your way to Niagara Falls State Park. Explore its walking trails, observation points, and picnic areas, and take some time to relax and enjoy the area's natural beauty.

The view that awaits you

Niagara Falls throughout the year

Peak Season

Since the weather is warm and pleasant, Niagara Falls experiences its highest tourist traffic in the summer months of June, July, and August. With temperatures ranging from 65°F to 80°F, the mist that splashes on the tourists makes for a much-needed cool respite from the heat. All the attractions, including the boat and walking tours, are fully operational during this time, making it the most popular time to visit Niagara Falls. Expect larger crowds and longer wait times at popular attractions and restaurants. You can also see a sharp spike in hotel prices at this time.

Mid-Season

The transitional periods between peak and low seasons that occur during spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) see a moderate crowd. In spring and fall, temperatures range from 45°F to 65°F. Not all the summer attractions will be available during this time, but most of them will still be functional. The mid-season is a good time to visit for those who prefer milder weather and fewer crowds compared to the peak season.

Low Season

In the winter months, between December and February, the temperatures can go as low as 20°F. The falls may partially freeze, creating stunning ice formations, and winter activities such as ice skating and winter festivals are popular. You will find significantly smaller crowds as this is a quieter and more budget-friendly time to visit. But one thing to remember is that some attractions have reduced operating hours during this time, and a lot of activities will be closed for the season.
