Niagara Falls | Natural beauty that cascades over two countries

If magnificence is anything to go by, the scenic Niagara Falls is sure to take your breath away! This natural marvel is a cross-border marvel, with not one, but three waterfalls in both America and Canada combined. On this page, you will find everything you need to know before booking your Niagara Falls tickets and tours including your ticket options, getting to the attraction, visiting tips and more!

Did you know?

Rainbow Bridge across the Niagara River is the closest crossing point between the two cities. Pedestrians can walk to the opposite side, tour the whole day, and return in the evening. It is important to have the proper documentation otherwise you will be denied entry. Read more about the required documentation in the following section.

Things to know before booking your Niagara Falls tours

  • Understanding the geography: Before planning your trip to Niagara Falls, it's important to know that the falls are divided between two countries: the United States and Canada. The American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are on the US side, while the Horseshoe Falls are primarily on the Canadian side.
  • Some attractions are seasonal: Boat cruises like the Maid of the Mist and Hornblower as well as water activities operate from April to November. Year-round attractions include Journey Behind the Falls, Cave of the Winds, the Underground Power Station & Tunnel Tour, Skylon Tower, Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, and the Butterfly Conservatory.
  • The better view: While both sides of the falls offer stellar views of the falls, the Canadian side with Horseshoe Falls is often favored. The Hornblower Cruise offers closer proximity to the falls and unobstructed views, making it a popular choice for photographers and tourists.
  • Foreign tourists need visas to enter both countries: If you are not a citizen of the US or Canada and plan on visiting both sides of Niagara Falls, you will need to get a US tourist visa and a Canadian tourist visa beforehand from your home country.
  • US and Canadian citizens crossing the border: US citizens over the age of 16 years will need a Passport, a Passport Card, or an Enhanced Driver's Licence to enter Canada. For Canadian citizens crossing over to the US side, you will need either a Canadian Passport, any Trusted Traveler Program Cards such as NEXUS or FAST/Express enrollment cards, or an Enhanced Driver’s License.

Niagara Falls Visitor tips

Niagara Falls throughout the year

Niagara Falls Peak season

Peak season

Since the weather is warm and pleasant, Niagara Falls experiences its highest tourist traffic in the summer months of June, July, and August. With temperatures ranging from 65°F to 80°F, the mist that splashes on the tourists makes for a much-needed cool respite from the heat. All attractions, including boat and walking tours, are fully operational but expect larger crowds, longer wait times, and higher hotel prices.

Niagara Falls Mid season

Mid-season

The transitional periods between peak and low seasons that occur during spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) see a moderate crowd. In spring and fall, temperatures range from 45°F to 65°F. Not all the summer attractions will be available during this time, but most of them will still be functional. This is a good time for those who prefer milder weather and fewer crowds compared to the peak season.

Niagara Falls Low season - Niagara Falls in winter

Low season

In the winter months, between December and February, the temperatures can go as low as 20°F. The falls may partially freeze, creating stunning ice formations, and winter activities such as ice skating and winter festivals are popular. You will find significantly smaller crowds plus this is a more budget-friendly time to visit. But some attractions have reduced operating hours during this time, and a lot of activities will be closed for the season.
